EMR
Electronic Medical Record
Electronic medical records (EMRs) are digital versions of a patient chart. Clinics and hospitals use EMRs to manage patient care.
Since eHealth and the Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) began working together, more than 80 per cent of physicians use an EMR as part of their practice.
EMRs used in Saskatchewan are:
- Med Access
- Accuro
- Visit the Accuro resources website for support.

eHR Viewer
The eHR Viewer is a provincial clinical viewer. Authorized providers use it to view patient information from across Saskatchewan’s health system. EMR Interoperability connects clinic EMRs with eHR Viewer to support continuity of care.

EMR Interoperability
EMR Interoperability, or EMRI, safely connects clinic EMRs and Saskatchewan’s provincial health systems. EMRI is available to providers using Accuro and Med Access EMRs and supports quick access to patient information.
Main features
- Receiving notifications from eHealth – Notifications alert care providers when new patient information is available in eHR Viewer. Care provider and patient list information is shared with eHealth every day. This helps to make sure the notifications go to the right provider and clinic.
- Sending patient clinical data to eHealth – This allows information from EMRs to be displayed in eHR Viewer, so authorized providers can see the same patient information. This feature is available for Accuro users and will be available for Med Access users in the future.
To use EMR Interoperability, you must:
- have an eHR Viewer account
- have Launch-In-Context (LIC) enabled if you use an EMR
- submit a request for EMR Interoperability using the EMR integrated services form
Accuro users must:
- have the latest version of Accuro
- meet minimum hardware requirements
Med Access users:
- refer to the hardware and software requirements
For more information on EMR Interoperability, contact the eHealth Primary Health Care team at ehsphcprogramteam@ehealthsask.ca or the SMA EMR team at emrteam@sma.sk.ca.
